Lagos – Abayomi Animashaun, Nigeria’s cadet sensational player on Saturday crashed out of the boys singles group at the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) U-16 Super League in Lagos.
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) covering the championships reports that Animashaun was defeated by Emmanuel Augustine and Gabriel Akinduro respectively.
He was defeated 11-9,11-6,16-14 (3-0) by Augustine, and was also thrashed 11=8, 11-7,11-7 (3-0) by Akinduro.
Commenting on the outcome of the game, Animashaun, who remained speechless for a while, said “I cannot describe what happened to me.
“It is so sad that I lost out from the group stage. I never expected such to happen to me. I don’t know what really happened along the line.
“I tried so hard to progress from the group stage but my best was not enough, but I tried so hard to come from down to wining but that didn’t happen, ” the player said.
Animashaun said he would now target the U-21 title at the forthcoming International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Premier Lotto tagged `Nigeria Open.’
“I have put the defeat behind me so as to concentrate for the Premier Lotto championship. The Nigeria Open is my next target so I am going to intensify efforts to my training.
“I want to record a remarkable outing at the Nigeria Open and I will work on every chances within my reach to achieve my goal,” he said.
NAN reports that the Nigeria Open is scheduled to serve off on May 18 and end on May 22 at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos. (NAN)
