Belgrade – Serbian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, confirmed a Serbian national was kidnapped in Libya, two months after two Serbs were killed while being held hostage.
The ministry said it was in touch with the Libyan authorities and doing everything to resolve the situation.
It provided no other details, but Novosti identified the victim as Miroslav Tomic, 36, an oil worker with the German company Ferrostaal, which supplies and maintains oil pipelines.
A 20-year veteran of Lybian oilfields, Tomic was reportedly taken by a local criminal group, probably for ransom, near the Messina oil field 1,200 kilometres south of Tripoli.
Two Serbian embassy workers were killed under murky circumstances on February 19, three months after they were kidnapped from the Serbian ambassador’s motorcade.
Serbian authorities said that they were killed in a U.S. airstrike on a terrorist camp, but there was no definitive confirmation of that. (dpa/NAN)
