MAIDUGURI – Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno on Saturday promised to accept the result of the Governorship polls in the state, irrespective of its outcome.
Shettima stated this while speaking with newsmen shortly after casting his vote in Maiduguri.
“If I win I will be happy; if any other candidate wins I will embrace him and congratulate him.”
Shattima said that as a true democrat, he had learnt to respect the wishes of the people by accepting election verdicts.
“You cannot claim to be a democrat if you are not willing to accept the verdict of any election.
“It is God that gives power to whom he wishes.
“If I happen to win, I will strive hard to carry everybody along, irrespective of where they come from.
“Honestly with the emerging peace, if I win, I will re-dedicate myself towards rebuilding Borno, towards rehabilitating the people.”
He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting credible polls.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
Shettima also commended the massive turnout of voters, especially in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
“INEC has done a commendable job in spite of the hitches associated with ballot paper reprinting.
“In spite of the initial hiccups, we have to give INEC kudos for conducting election in the state.
“We have to commend the people of Borno for coming out in large numbers, especially in the IDPs camps.
“I was highly delighted when I saw the large turnout of voters in polling units,“ the governor said. (NAN)
