Lagos – Mr Bolaji Akinola, the Chief Executive Officer of Ships and Ports Communication Company, has urged the Federal Government to initiate policies that will ensure that petroleum products importers make profit.
Akinola told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Friday that such encouragement would enable the marketers import and have a little margin for profit.
“We know what is happening to the exchange rate – naira to the dollar.
“So that placed a total burden on government to become the supplier of fuel to Nigerians.
“Something had to be done about that. We all know that President Muhammodu Buhari means well for this country.
“He means well for the people of this country; he is not one who wants to see Nigerians suffer.
“So I think the best way out of the fuel queue is what government has done to encourage importation by the independent marketers.
“And the only way to encourage them is to assure them that they will be able to sell at a price that will help them recoup their investment and leave a little margin for profit.
“I believe it’s the right way to go and I think Nigerians have expressed support for the president and the Federal Government.
“On the long run, it will help stabilise the supply of PMS to Nigerians and if there is stability in the supply of PMS, it means transportation will not be hampered.’’
He said that availability of fuel would ease traffic congestion caused by long queues on the roads, adding that it would also benefit the masses on the long run. (NAN)
