Lagos – The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) and the Inland Container Nigeria Ltd. (ICNL) would on Feb. 18, hold a one-day sensitisation programme for stakeholders in the maritime industry in Kaduna.
This is contained in a statement made available on Tuesday in Lagos by the Deputy Director, Public Relations Unit of the NSC, Mr Ignatius Nweke, a copy of which was made vailable to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to the statement, the sensitisation programme would be held under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Transport.
“The seminar with the theme ‘’The Emergence of Inland Dry Port in Promoting International Trade and Enhancement of Hinterland Shipping’’, is expected to prepare stakeholders toward the successful take-off of the inland dry port in Kaduna.
“Expectedly, the Minister of Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, would be the Chief Host at the occasion, while the Executive Governor of Kaduna State is the Special Guest of Honour.
“The event would among other things sensitise stakeholders on the benefits of the dry port in the state and its environs.
“Widen the shippers’ horizon on effective utilisation of the dry port facility for import and export business as well as Boosting export trade and other ancillary business of the hinterland,’’ the statement said.
It said topics to be presented include: The NSC as Economic Regulator and Promoters of Inland Dry Port/Truck Transit Parks in Nigeria; and The Imperative of Dry Port Operations in Nigeria- Kaduna ICNL in Perceptive’’,

The programme would also dwell on Compliance with Global Standard and Best Practices for an Enhanced International Trade.
NAN reports that the Federal Executive Council in 2016 granted approval for the establishment of six ICDs and Container Freight Stations (CFS) across the country in Isiala-Ngwa (Aba), Erunmu (Ibadan), Zawachiki (Kano), Heipang (Jos) and Funtua (Katsina) and Jauri (Maiduguri).
NAN reports that operating as the Ports Economic Regulator has given the Council further impetus to ensure the realization of the projects to boost operations in the industry. (NAN)
