Lagos – The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) says it will donate 100,000 free copies of the Bible to less privileged Nigerians as part of activities to mark its 50th anniversary.
Mr Gbenga Olayeye, the Chairman, Planning Committee of the upcoming BSN at 50, made the disclosure at a news conference in Lagos on Tuesday.
“The beneficiaries of the free bible distribution are those in prisons and remand homes, the blind, students, those in orphanage homes and old people’s home,’’ he said
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 50th anniversary will be celebrated with several activities from Feb. 2 to Feb. 8, 2016.
Olaleye said that the BSN had translated the complete Bible into 24 languages, saying that it would benefit those who could not read the Bible in English.
“We have succeeded in translating the Bible into 24 languages, and at the moment, the Bible translation and revision is going on in over 12 Nigerian languages.
“We desire to translate the Bible into all Nigerian languages, which is reported to be over 500,’’ he said.
Olaleye urged Nigerians to embrace the fear of God in order to move the country forward.
He said that the fear of God was the only solution to end the current challenges the country was faced with.
“I urge Nigerians, irrespective of religion, sex, tribe or profession, to fear God. It is only the fear of God that will end corruption, kidnapping, rape, armed robbery and many other vices prevalent in our country.
“We cannot succeed as a nation if we push God behind us,’’ he said.
The General Secretary of the organisation, Mr Dare Ajiboye, also charged Nigerians to co-habit peacefully in order to ensure peace and unity in the nation.
He urged those involved in the agitation for the state of Biafra to seek legitimate means of getting what they wanted.

Ajiboye said that there was also the need for government to find out the grievances of those involved.
“There is need to dialogue. They must have reasons for their actions. And it could be discussed across the table’’ he said. (NAN)
