SOKOTO – Sokoto State Government on Monday said it had placed a 3-month ban on new plots allocation and construction of new houses in the state capital following distortion of the city’s master plan.

The  Commissioner for Land and Housing in the state, Alhaji Nasiru Dantsoho, disclosed this in Sokoto at a news briefing to mark the 2014 World Habitat Day.

“The ban will be lifted in December when the distortions and discrepancies are expected to be duly rectified.

“We also want to make sure that residents of the state only build their structures upon receiving approvals from state government .

“Efforts are also on to ensure the provision of access roads, drains and other infrastructure across Sokoto metropolis and its environs,’’ he said. “ Another set of 500 houses are also being built at Gidan-man-ada area, Sokoto; I am assuring that the houses would be completed before the expiration Gov. Aliyu Wamakko’s tenure.

“We are also partnering with the Federal Mortgage Bank and other private firms to build more houses for the people of the state, non-civil servants inclusive,’’ he said.

Dantsoho said the state government had concluded plans to sell its houses located in Runjin-Sambo, behind UBA and Gwiwa, among others. (NAN)
