Sokoto – The Anti-vandal Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Sokoto State Command, said it had beefed up security measures to prevent diversion of petroleum products allocated to the state.
The Commandant of the Corps in the state, Mr Babangida Aliyu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto on Monday that officers were on surveillance patrols to ensure that the state’s allocations were not diverted to the black market.
“Already, plain security personnel had since been deployed to Isa, Tangaza, Sabon-Birni and Illela border posts to prevent diversion of the commodity to the Niger Republic,” he said.
Aliyu also said that security measures had been put in place to facilitate quick response to any attempt to illegally transport the products.
He appealed to traditional rulers, especially those in border communities, to offer intelligence reports that could assist the command to apprehend those involved in the illegal activities.
He also warned petroleum marketers against diversion of the products as the Command would monitor the sale of the petroleum products in and outside the state capital.(NAN)
