Sokoto – The Sokoto State Government on Friday said it had concluded plans to recruit 500 additional teachers for secondary schools across the state.
Alhaji Bature Shinkafi, the Head of the Civil Service (HOS) of the state, made this known in Sokoto when he addressed newsmen on efforts to transform the sector.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the move is coming barely one month after the state government declared a “state of emergency’’ in the education sector.
Shinkafi said that the teachers to be recruited would be graduates and holders of the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE).
He said: “The committee set up to conduct the recruitment had submitted its report to my office on Jan. 6.

“The aptitude tests for the potential teachers were fairly, honestly and transparently conducted by the committee.
“The report of the committee has been submitted to Gov. Aminu Tambuwal for his final approval.
“If finally approved by the governor, the additional teachers would be deployed to teach both science and arts subjects in Junior and Secondary schools across the 23 local governments of the state.’’ (NAN)
