SOKOTO – Sokoto State Government has announced plans to distribute N200 million as loan to small scale industrialists and entrepreneurs in the state.
Gov. Aliyu Wamakko made the announcement on Monday in Sokoto at the closing of the Third National Trade Fair held from March 17 to 31.
Wamakko said that the gesture was aimed at further revamping the state’s industrial sector.
“This is with the view to creating more job opportunities, create wealth as well as curb the menace of poverty and unemployment.
“Nigeria is regrettably now a massive importer and consumer of foreign goods, rather than being a massive producer and exporter,” Wamakko said.
Wamakko said that the state government was taking concrete steps to revitalise its agricultural sector.
He said that his administration was making concerted efforts to harness the abundant raw materials and natural resources.
“Our aim is to make Sokoto state the investors’ haven and we are determined to engage in private-public partnership in this direction,” Wamakko said.
The Commissioner for Commerce, Alhaji Aliyu Achida said that the fair had succeeded in showcasing the tremendous resources of the state and Nigeria to the outside world. (NAN)
