AWKA (SUNDIATA POST)- Wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo on Friday distributed vegetable seedlings to 8000 farmers in the state, to promote healthy diet and food sufficiency.
Soludo distributed the seedlings at the flag-off of Healthy Living Vegetable Gardens in the 21 local government areas of Anambra, at Ogidi in Idemili North.
“This event is part of programmes under the Healthy Living Initiative, geared towards a healthy and prosperous Anambra state.
“At Healthy Living, we recognise that vegetables are sources of vitamins and minerals as well as income for those involved in production and marketing of vegetables.
“We are distributing the vegetable seedlings to increase the availability, affordability and consumption of nutrient-dense vegetables, to make our people healthy and also reduce malnutrition,” she said.
Soludo urged the people, especially women, to key fully into vegetable farming programme to sustain food production and surplus for local and international consumption.
Earlier in his address, Mr Stanley Nkwoka, Chairman, Idemili North LGA, commended Mrs Soludo for the kind gesture and promised that his people would key fully into the programme.
He promised to support the farmers to ensure they realise the benefits of the programme.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor’s wife distributed okra, tomatoes, cucumber, green/red/hot pepper, maize and sweet-soft-corn seedlings. (NAN)
