ABUJA – A House of Representatives special session in honour of late Nigerian civil strife hero, Brigadier-General Benjamin Adekunle ,rtd, alias Black Scorpion was momentarily disrupted as some legislators of Igbo extraction protested tributes to the late General.
Gen. Adekunle (June 26, 1936- September 13, 2014), popularly known as “The Black Scorpion” played a major role in the Nigerian army defeat and recapture of the breakaway Republic of Biafra from 1967 to 1970.
Arua Arunsi and Udo Oluchi Ibeji, lawmakers from Abia state sat down in defiance when House members rose at plenary to observe a minute silence for the late General. [eap_ad_1] Majority leader, Mulikat Adeola-Akande had officially reported Gen. Adekunle’s death at Tuesday”s plenary. She went ahead to eulogise the wartime exploits of the late General who hails from Ogbomosho, Oyo state, her constituency.
Rep Ibeji in protest to the one minute silence for the late General shouted severally “I don’t care if he (Adekunle) is dead or alive”. The lawmaker was eventually called to order by the presiding House Speaker, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal paving way for the one minute silence. (Vanguard)
