YOLA (SUNDIATA POST)- The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the Federal Government’s policy through nationwide standardisation efforts for sustainable economic development.
Dr Ifeanyi Chukwunonso, Director-General of the organisation, stated this at a sensitisation workshop with the theme: “Nigeria First: Standardisation Path to Sustainable Economic Growth,” in Yola on Thursday.
Chukwunonso, who was represented by Director, Cooperative Affairs, SON, Talatu Ethan, said, the success of the new policy hinges on adherence to standards in production and distribution.
According to him, standardisation is the backbone of industrial growth, consumer protection, and international trade.
He urged stakeholders, producers, marketers, retailers, and academia to embrace quality practices and support SON in the fight against substandard goods.
The DG further called on Nigerians to also prioritise made-in-Nigeria goods as a path to sustainable economic development.
“Our goal is to ensure that Nigerian products meet the minimum requirements of the Nigerian Industrial Standards, making them competitive globally.”
“As we move forward with renewed determination, let us all commit to a simple but powerful creed: Nigeria First, Standards Always.
“Together, we can build a Nigeria whose products command respect, whose industries create jobs, and whose economy stands strong powered by standards”, he said.
Mr James Yakzum, the SON’s North East Zonal Director, called on the participants to understand the significance of SON satisfaction service on nation’s economic development.
“SON certification enhances product quality, boosts industrial competitiveness, promotes trade, and supports economic diversification.
“Encouraging businesses to comply with standards will further accelerate Nigeria’s economic growth and development,” he said.
Dr Umar Abdullahi, who spoke on behalf of the participants, described the sensitisation as worldwide engagement and commended SON for carrying them along.
He said they were fully sensitised on how to comply with quality and standardisation issue with a view to ensuring Nigerian products competed favorably with international standards (NAN)
