PRETORIA – South Africa’s state prosecutor said on Monday he would appeal a High Court ruling to review a decision to drop 783 corruption charges against President Jacob Zuma, citing independence of the prosecuting authority.

The decision by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in April 2009 to set aside the charges allowed Zuma to run for president in elections the same month.

“I have decided to apply for leave to appeal against the judgment,” said the National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams. (Reuters)
