JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s headline consumer inflation quickened as expected to 5.0 percent year-on-year in July, compared with 4.7 percent in June, data from Statistics South Africa showed on Wednesday.
On a month-on-month basis, prices were up 1 percent compared with a 0.4 percent increase previously.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
Core inflation, which excludes the prices of food, non-alcoholic beverages, petrol and energy, edged lower to 5.4 percent year-on-year in July versus 5.5 percent the previous month, but was slightly up at 0.4 percent month-on-month from 0.3 percent. (Reuters)
