Abuja – The leadership of the Coalition of All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Support Groups in South-South, has passed a vote of confidence on the Coordinator, Presidential Amnesty Programme, retired Brig. Gen. Paul Boro.
Amb. Fubara Dagogo, Chairman of the coalition while addressing a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja, said Boro´s achievements since he assumed office was unprecedented and urged him to sustain the tempo.
Dagogo said youths from the South-South were proud of his achievements which according to him showed that with the right people in leadership, change was possible.
He explained that under Boro´s leadership, the Presidential Amnesty Programme had lived up to expectations, which was to resolve the conflicts in the Niger Delta region.
“The assignment given to Boro by the President has proved that he has leadership capacity to turn things around if given higher political opportunity to serve his people and the nation at large.
“The youth in South-South believe in his leadership style and humble nature and hereby call on him to consider seeking elective office in the near future.
Dagogo, a leader of APC South-South Youth Assembly, noted that Boro had never discriminated against participants of the amnesty programme, despite his political inclination, an attribute he said was rear among leaders.
He encouraged Boro to derive strength from the present challenges facing his office and leadership of the amnesty programme.
According to Dagogo, Boro has successfully brought discipline to the administrative policy of the amnesty programme.
“Boro ensures that repentant agitators and militants are not only reformed, but well prepared to take up leadership role in the society to ensure the development of the region,’’ Dagogo said.
He, however, urged the amnesty boss to strive to achieve more in the area of capacity building for the ex-militants, in spite of challenges.
“He should not be distracted but remain focus, while reaching out to affected youths, communities, states and traditional rulers in the region.
“We are also calling on other appointees in the region to emulate Boro’s humility in leadership,´´ he said.
Dagogo called on stakeholders to co-operate with the leadership of the amnesty programme by giving peace a chance because peace was critical to development in the region and the country. (NAN)
