LAGOS – Sarah Boulous, the President, Society for the Performing Arts in
Nigeria (SPAN) on Tuesday urged the nation’s youths to strive to attain greatness in the area of dancing, acting and performances.
Boulous told the News agency of Nigerian (NAN) in Lagos that SPAN was a platform through which Nigerian youths could achieve greatness through performances and stage acting.
“It is in the area of creativity that opportunities abound for the youths, putting up several performances that will help them build their talents.
“Through that they can dialogue, develop and overcome limitations using the arts as the healing and transformation tool to empower themselves.
“These days, we are defined by what we do more than who we are, that is why we motivate, encourage, nurture and engaged youths to build up their talents to become good,” he said.
The President told NAN that when youths and children were encouraged to further their education or drive to excel in their heroic journey, integrity and dedication will make them transform the nation.
She stressed that SPAN would always encourage the richness and diversity of Nigerian cultural expressions and tradition, nurture, preserve it and show it for all to see and experience.
She noted that the academy would be a hub for creativity where the community could inspire, educate and also engaged in speaking life through the arts.
“Our hope is to change the mindset of our youths, empower them to serve our nation and shape our environment to provide a promising future for the generation to come,” she said.

NAN reports that SPAN is a registered nongovernmental organisation that was founded in 2004.
Its aim is to set a world class standard for the performing arts education in Nigeria.
It offers classes in professional theatre, music and dance in Nigeria.
The academy provides the much-needed opportunity for talented and gifted persons, especially children and youths to express themselves through the arts. (NAN)
