Yenagoa – Mr Jonas Agwu, Assistant Corps Marshal, Zone 6 Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Thursday described Special Marshals as strategic partners in ensuring safer roads in the country.
Agwu made the remark during the election of Bayelsa officials of the Special Marshals held in Yenagoa.
He noted that the volunters had made significant contributions to successes recorded by the corps over the last 28 years.
“I must say that the Special Marshal is a very strategic arm of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
“As volunteers, their contribution in the area of advocacy, public enlightenment and building partnership with our stakeholders has been quite instrumental since 1988 when we came on board.
“The Special Marshals are the volunteers of the FRSC; they are professionals from various field, who have given up their time to complement the operations of the corps,” he said.
Dr Paul Obuma, Zonal Coordinator, Special Marshals unit of the corps, stressed that the volunteers were “committed to promoting safer roads.”
Obuma, who served as the Returning Officer for the Election, said election into the nine positions was smooth and orderly.
In his comment, Mr Wobin Gora, the Sector Commander, tasked the marshals to work as a team in order to achieve the mandate of making roads across the state safe for users.
“I urge the new executives to live up to expectation and step-up plans to improve operations,” Gora said.
NAN reports that Mr Douglas Awudulu emerged as the Bayelsa Coordinator of the Special Marshal, after defeating his rival Mr John Egbe.
Awudulu, in his post election speech, pledged to work hard with all members to build on existing successes recorded by the FRSC.
