ENUGU – Sports administrators in Enugu State have called for the formulation of sustainable sports policy to reposition sporting activities in the country.
Mr John Eli, the Director of Sports in the Enugu State Sports Council, made the call in an interview with the told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Wednesday.
He said that such policy had become necessary so that discovered talents would not be lost to other states during competitions.

“We will continue to loss our grip in Africa and the world if the country fails to pay more attention to sports development.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“Government should make sports development in the country compulsory and follow it up by checking its effective implementation at local, state and federal levels.
“It is because we failed to plan that led to our failure to qualify for the African Cup of Nations twice in three years,’’ he said.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
In his contribution, Mr Edwin Eze, the Director of Sports (Information), said that for Nigeria to arrest the dwindling situation in the nation’s sports development, sports administrators should put their house in order. [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“We should start developing and making use of our discovered sports men and women by exposing them to the strategies of the game.
“Federal Government should give ultimatum to the states to take sports development very serious.
“Government should not only make it compulsory but ensure its full implementation.
“They should also ensure that sporting facilities are available at secondary schools and the states’ stadia.’’
He lamented that some sporting facilities were blocked with private structures which made the facilities inaccessible. (NAN
