Spotify partners FC Barcelona to celebrate Coldplay’s 10th album

LAGOS (SUNDIATA POST)- Spotify has partnered with FC Barcelona to celebrate Coldplay, a British Rock band, in honour of their 10th album, “Moon Music”.

Marc Hazan, Vice President, Partnerships and Marketing at Spotify, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.
Explaining the details of the partnership, Hazan said: “The shirt of FC Barcelona will feature the logo of Coldplay that is inspired by their 10th album, “Moon Music”, released Oct. 4, which debuted at number 1 on Spotify’s weekly global charts.”
According to him, the shirt will be worn for the El Clásico match when FC Barcelona take on Real Madrid on Oct. 26.
He said the shirt would be FC Barcelona Femení, in their Liga F match against Eibar on Nov. 2.
He noted that Coldplay logo was inspired by their new album featuring singles: ‘feelslikeimfallinginlove’, ‘Good Feelings’ featuring Ayra Starr, as well as ‘We Pray’, featuring Little Simz, Burna Boy, Elyanna and TINI.
“Coldplay is one of the most beloved bands in the world on Spotify, and their storied connection to Barça runs deep.
“We are thrilled to celebrate that history with fans worldwide through the iconic Barça jersey.
“The release of Moon Music is a perfect moment to celebrate the power of football and music’s ability to bring people together,” he said.
He noted that based on Spotify’s data, Coldplay was the most streamed British band of all time on Spotify.
According to him, Coldplay has 12 tracks in the Spotify Billions Club, the most of any band on Spotify.
He noted that Spotify fans had added Coldplay tracks to more than 100 million user-generated playlists worldwide.
He explained that Coldplay’s song, “Viva la Vida”, was cherished by FC Barcelona fans, as it became the unofficial anthem of the club during its 2008–09 season.
He said like FC Barcelona, Coldplay bring together fans from across the world.
According to him, the moment will celebrate the unity of humanity and the joy felt in shared experiences, either during football match or music concert.
He said as an example of how the band unites people from across the world, the Moon Music logo that would feature on the FC Barcelona shirt was inspired by a design from a Coldplay fan.
“Spotify and FC Barcelona’s first-of-its-kind partnership brings music and football together like never before.
“Coldplay is the latest artiste to be featured on the iconic FC Barcelona jersey with Spotify, following previous shirt takeovers with KAROL G, The Rolling Stones, ROSALÍA, and Drake.
“FC Barcelona will also share a special edition of the popular Barça Matchday playlist on Spotify featuring themed songs to motivate the players and fans in the build up to the game, which was curated by Coldplay.
“The limited edition jersey will be available to purchase via the Barça Official Stores in Spain and online on Oct. 18 with pre-sale from Oct. 17 at 11.30 p.m.until the physical stores open on Friday, 18 Oct. 18 at 10.00 a.m.
“Spotify, FC Barcelona and Coldplay are also launching a limited edition lifestyle collection of merchandise including t-shirts, hoodies, and scarfs.
“The merchandise imagery brings together the celestial themes of Moon Music and the legendary colours of FC Barcelona.
“The limited edition merchandise can also be purchased via the FC Barcelona Store on Oct 18, with a portion of proceeds to The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
“Inspired by the club’s founding year, there will be 1899 jerseys exclusively. Additionally for super fans, the site will offer a very special collection of 22 glow-in-the-dark jerseys – 11 signed by the starting men’s and 11 signed by the starting women’s team players.
“All net proceeds from the limited edition jerseys will go to The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). A partnership between FC Barcelona and the UNHCR began in 2022 and raises awareness among football fans around the world,” he said.
