Squash player calls for more programmes at grassroots

LAGOS – Sodiq Taiwo, the country’s number one ranked male Squash player, has called on the Nigeria Squash Federation (NSF) to make grassroots development of the sport its topmost priority.
Taiwo made the call in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday.

He said that Squash would develop more in the country if the leaders did what they were supposed to do.
“It is so unfortunate that squash is being neglected; it’s sad because these youngsters need this exposure.

“I think at this juncture we need to organise our grassroots; I mean we need a viable grassroots programme to keep these young talents actively engaged,” he said.
Taiwo urged the federation to take the necessary steps that would place squash where it it rightly belongs.

“The federation has a lot to do. I am sure that they are aware of the task ahead so that the rejected stone will be a cornerstone.
