OGBOMOSO (OYO STATE) – Dec. 5, 2014 (NAN) The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has embarked on an indefinite strike over the non-payment of their salary and four years Earned Allowance.
This is contained in a statement signed by its Chairman, Mr Abimbola Aleshinloye, in Ogbomoso on Thursday.
It stated that SSANU’s agreement with the university Governing Council was not honoured.
SSANU said that their salaries for the months of October and November were yet to be paid as well as their earned allowances for 2009/2010, 2011/2012.
“The situation which our members have condoned while we dialogue with the university management has reached a breaking point which is no longer bearable by our members.
“Only recently, the union lost a female member due to non-availability of money to take care of her hospital bill,’’ it stated.
According to the statement, most of our members’ children have been sent out of schools for their inability to pay up their wards school fees.
It stated that the university management told the union that fund to pay the October and November salaries and allowances had not been released to the institution.
The statement stated that all efforts with the university management to salvage the situation were abandoned while members were left to starve.
SSANU stated that it would remain on strike until the salaries of October, November, and the last tranche of the accrued Earned Allowances were paid.
It appealed to parents, guardians, and all well-meaning citizens of Oyo and Osun to impress on the states government to be alive to its responsibilities. (NAN)
