LAGOS – The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU), Lagos State University chapter, on Friday lauded the management for paying the June and July salaries of its members.
Mr Saheed Oseni, the Chairman of the union, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the salaries, which were earlier withheld, were paid on Oct. 3.
NAN reports that SSANU-LASU had on May 26 embarked a comprehensive strike but suspended it on Aug. 1, after reaching an agreement with its management and governing council.
The university authorities had withheld the June and July salaries of the union members, in line with the `no work, no pay’ policy of the Lagos State Government. Oseni told NAN he was happy the management had yielded and paid the salaries.
“The salary payment was a right step by the management as it has brought peace and stability on the campus and enabled members to meet family needs,” he said.
Oseni said the June salary of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), LASU chapter, its sister union, had also been paid.
The chairman, however, urged the university authorities to meet other pending demands of the union as agreed.
“Our promotion issue is still pending because the governing council has not met to deliberate on it,” he said.
Oseni expressed optimism that when the council meets on Oct. 15, the promotion issue would be resolved. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
