Mararaba   –     Residents of Mararaba have appealed to Gov. Tanko Almakura to extend the ongoing road construction from Aso pada to Gurku, to ease the hardship confronting the people and fast track the socio-economic development of the area.

They made the appeal on Tuesday in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Aso Pada, Karu Local Government Area of the state.

A resident of Aso Pada, Alhaji Sule Mohammed, said the current administration under Gov. Almakura should try to extend the road construction from Aso Pada to Gurku instead of terminating the road rehabilitation which started from Mararaba at Aso Pada.

“We are appealing to him to continue the rehabilitation of the road from Aso Pada to Gurku to boost our economic activities and our farming activities also, as you can see that the road needs to be rehabilitated.

“The rehabilitation of the road will reduce the plight of the people plying the road as well as boost our revenue base through boosting our business activities and the state’s revenue base”, he said.

He also commended Gov. Tanko Almakura for the recent supply of fertilisers to farmers across the state and called for timely distribution of other farming inputs in order to boost the agriculture sector of the nation’s economy.

A business woman in Mararaba, Mrs Janet Solomon, said the poor state of the road would continue to affect commercial activities negatively, if the government did not begin to rehabilitate it

“We, the business people, believe that good roads enhance economic activities, thus reducing unemployment, and boosting the revenue base of individuals and the state government.

“The construction of the road will not only be beneficial to the business people but also to the community, especially farmers,’’ she said.

Another trader, Mrs Hassana Abu, also corroborated the the views of Mrs Solomon on the need to ameliorate the sufferings of the road users.

“The construction of the road will not only boost agricultural production in the area but also raise the revenue base of the area, reduce poverty and improve the socio-economic activities in the area.’’

She also commended Al-Makura administration’s developmental strides, and called for the sustenance of the tempo.
