Yola – Stakeholders in seven local government areas worst affected by Boko Haram insurgency in Adamawa have lauded the state House of Assembly for passing into law a bill establishing a rehabilitation agency.
A cross section of stakeholders in the affected areas who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the development, noted that the proposed agency would rehabilitate and reconstruct areas.
But the respondents urged Gov. Muhammadu Jibrilla to assent to the law for the agency to commence operation without delay.
“It is a welcome development and timely for such agency to come on board to help displaced people that have returned or are still returning to their recovered communities to pick up their lives once again,” Alhaji Hassan Ahmad, a political stalwart in Maiha local government area said.
Ahmad said the agency would be a better organisation to collaborate and coordinate assistance coming from donor agencies for judicious utilisation for the victims of insurgency in the state.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
Mr Danladi Chamber, an opinion leader in Mubi North local government area, also lauded the development and urged government to ensure credible and serious persons to serve in the agency in view of the onerous task ahead of it.
“People in the affected areas must be well represented in the agency to ensure only genuine victims were attended to,” Chamber said.
On his part, Mr Abdulrahman Mutawalle, a union leader in Michika local government area, also called for active involvement of people from the affected areas.
“Credible people should head it; and its leadership should not be politicised,” Mutawalle said.
Also supporting the bill in their respective submissions, the acting Chairman of Hong Local Government Council, Mr Hamidu Misa, and his colleague of Gombi, Alhaji Muhammad Waziri, lauded the development and urged for the active involvement of people from the affected areas in running the agency.
NAN recalls that the bill for the establishment of the agency to rehabilitate and reconstruct insurgency affected areas was sponsored by Mr Hassan Barguma (APC-Hong).
It was passed into law two weeks ago by the state legislature.
The seven insurgency affected local government areas comprised Madagali, Michika, Hong, Mubi North, Mubi South, Maiha and Gombi. (NAN)
