ABUJA – Alhaji Muhammed Bello, the immediate past Chairman, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) said the cooperation by stakeholders and staff was responsible for the success of his eight-year tenure.
Bello said this during the send-off dinner held in his honour in Abuja on Friday.
The former chairman also commended all board members who served with him for the modest achievements recorded during their tenure.
He advised the new chairman to carry everybody in the commission along in order to take it to the next level.
“I want you to give maximum cooperation to the new chairman in order to make his job much easy.
“ With cooperation, every business of the commission will go on smoothly, faster and orderly,’’ Bello said.
He said that he would remain ever grateful to the Federal Government for the opportunity given him to serve in the commission.
The new Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Abdullahi Muktar, praised Bello and his board for their contributions toward the uplift of the commission.
Muktar said that without the commitment, support and perseverance of the stakeholders, the commission could not have been in existence today.
He also commended the leadership of the State Muslim Welfare Board that stood firm by the commission from its inception to date as they always insisted the commission did the right thing.
“ In the last eight years of the existence of the commission, it has done wonderfully well.
“ We in the commission have no choice than to thank and pray for the out-going Chairman, Alhaji Muhammed Bello and board members for their wonderful jobs,’’ he said.
Muktar said that he learnt a lot and was properly groomed under the past chairman and his team.
According to him, whenever it comes to Hajj operations, the former Chairman and board members put the commission first before any other thing.
He said that everybody “at the commission is going to miss these crop of people forever’’.
“We at the commission wished that the Act that establishes it permits third and fourth term service, we could have clamoured for it so that they will continue to serve the commission.
“ We pray and hope that as we celebrate them today, we will also be celebrated in the nearest future,’’ Muktar said.
Responding, the Executive Secretary of Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), Mr John-Kennedy Opara, said that his commission was going to miss the out-going chairman.
This, he attributed to the synergy both commissions had been enjoying over the years.
“ We are here as usual to celebrate with you on the dinner organised in honour of the out-going Chairman and Board members.
“ We pray that the Almighty God will continue to bless them as they are set to face another life entirely,’’ he said.

Opara urged the new chairman of the commission to build on the legacy left behind by the out-going Chairman.
He said that the out-going chairman had done a lot that was worthy of emulation by other government parastatals and agencies if their quest to aspire higher was anything to go by. (NAN)
