Either we want to admit or not, states cannot pay same minimum wage with the federal government as long as this criminally lopsided revenue sharing formula persists.
And that is why I agree with Gov. Fayemi, who spoke on behalf of the Governors’ Forum, that the central government could not compel states to pay the 30k minimum wage.
Let’s take emotions away. Granted that most of these governors are irresponsible with funds and are living beyond their means, SOME ARE EVEN THIEVES who see their states as their vestiges.
But if they are forced to agree to wages they could not pay, SAME Nigerians will nearly roast them when six months salary arrears become one year!
Eighteen thousand naira can never do it again, but let states agree what they can pay.
