Asaba, -The second Vice President of the Nigerian Statistics Association, Mr Fidelis Adaka, has called on the President- elect, retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Buhari, to ensure the speedy passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
Adaka, who made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Asaba, noted that the passage of the PIB would give the country the opportunity to control its local content.
She said that aside giving the country the opportunity to have control over its local content, the bill would provide legal backing as well as reduce the influence of foreigners on the price of crude oil.
According to him, some other countries are presently taking care of their local content and this is not to the advantage of the country.

He noted that if the bill was not passed, the country would not be able to control its local content, which was a vital tool in the industry.
On the need for reduction in cost of governance, Adaka called for a cut in salaries of political appointees, adding that the money saved from the exercise should be spent on capital projects.
He noted that reducing the salaries of public office holders would help to reduce the crave for public office.
According to him, most public office holders, who vie for political positions, do not go there to serve the people but to amass wealth for themselves.
“This is the more reason why the allowances of such offices should be reviewed,’’ he said. (NAN)
