Abuja (Sundiata Post) – In a move to address the root cause of reprisal and counter reprisal attacks in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, the Special Military Task Force (STF), code named Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), mandated to restore peace in the State has seized over 1000 cattle grazing on farm lands of the natives.
Our correspondent reports that most of the issues that lead to frequent face-offs between the locals and herdsmen in the State are trespasses of cattle on farm lands which has resulted in many deaths.
However, haven identified the trigger to the crisis, the Commander of the Task Force and General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army, Maj-Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar vowed to address the cause aimed at putting a halt to the incessant killings.
Seizing the cattle that strayed into farm lands yesterday, the Spokesman for the taskforce Captain James Oya gave the narrative that a large number of sheep were also seized alongside the cattle.
According to him: “Preliminary investigation revealed that these cattle and sheep came from Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi LGAs respectively, and are currently in their own custody for necessary action”, he said in a statement sent to our correspondent on Wednesday.
