ABUJA — Residents of Nyanya-Mararaba have urged the Federal Road Service Corps

(FRSC) to stop the movement of articulated vehicles in and out of Abuja during the rush hours.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday, Mr Tony Nwachukwu, a driver, said that the movement of articulated vehicles during rush hours posed a threat to motorists and passengers along that axis.
Nwachukwu said that the movement of such vehicles had been were stopped due to numerous accident caused in the past.
“Before now, accidents used to happen every day on that axis due to the movement of articulated vehicles.
“Any accident on that road that involves such vehicles end up affecting many cars, leading to loss many lives.’’
Nwachukwu alleged that some drivers of articulated vehicles were always under the influence of alcohol and so do not listen to road users.
He appealed to FRSC officials to always stay around Abacha Barracks to ensure that drivers of such vehicles were compelled to park until 10 p.m.
He said that this would stop the vehicles from struggling on the road with other cars.
Also commenting, Mr Ibrahim Musa, a businessman, advised that the government should provide alternative road for articulated vehicles.
“I think the best solution should be to provide alternative road for articulated vehicles because the drivers of such big vehicles like to intimidate the small ones’’.
Another business man, Mr Ifeanyi Okereke, urged the FRSC to impound such vehicles and ensure that owners pay a fine before the trucks are released to them.
“The Road Safety should impose heavy fine on these long vehicles. The vehicles should be impounded and released only after payment of the fine.
“Government should put in place drastic measures to check the impunity of these truck drivers,’’ he said. (NAN)
