Abuja – A store manager, Obi Christopher, on Tuesday appeared in a Wuse Zone 6 Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing 35 designer shirts worth N787,500 from his employer.
The police charged Christopher, who lives at No. 6, Magarza Close, Mabushi, Abuja, with theft.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Peter Ejike, told the court that the complainant, Urupton Anthony, alleged that the defendant stole the shirts from his shop, located in
L36, Levis Stores, Jabi Lake Mall Abuja.
Ejike alleged that the defendant, who was the manager of Levis Stores, Silverbird branch, near Yar’Adua Centre, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, was entrusted with different brands of shirts.
He explained that when an audit was carried out in the store, it was discovered that money for 35 shirts were not accounted for.
The offence, the prosecutor said, contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code
Defence Counsel, Etta Effiong, prayed the court to admit his client on the most liberal terms.
Delivering a ruling, Magistrate, Ahmed Ndajiwo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ndajiwo adjourned the matter untill March 3, for hearing.
