Strong earthquake jolts Papua New Guinea

BEIJING – An earthquake seven magnitude jolted sea off the coast of Papua at 3:07 p.m. Beijing Time Friday, according to Earthquake Networks Centre.

The epicentre, with a focal depth of 50 km, was initially determined to be at 6.6 degrees south latitude and 155 degrees east longitude.

The Tsunami Warning Centre of the State Oceanic Administration said in a statement that tsunami is expected after the quake in areas near the epicentre.

The tsunami is unlikely to cause disastrous effect on China, adds. (Xinhua/NAN)
