AKURE – A 30-year-old student, Ayodeji Fakuade, on Friday appeared before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court over an alleged attempt to fraudulently obtain N130,000 from a dead customer’s bank account.

The Prosecutor, ASP Isah Atanegbe, said Fakuade committed the offence on Oct. 30 at 2.30 p.m. at ECOBANK, Alagbaka branch, Akure.

Atanegbe said that the accused forged the signature of the late Mr Adetokunbo Adeyinka, with the intention to withdraw the sum of N130,000 from  the deceased’s bank account.

He said that the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 509 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of attempted fraud preferred against him.

Mr Ilesanmi Ikumonisan, counsel to the accused, prayed the court to admit his client to bail, on liberal terms.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Victoria Bobmanuel, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

Bobmanuel said that the surety must provide this year’s tax clearance obtained from the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

She said the surety must also fill an affidavit of means and submit two recent passport photographs at the court registry.

The chief magistrate subsequently adjourned the case till Dec. 1, for mention. (NAN)
