A tragic fire outbreak at the Bishop Crowther Memorial Seminary School in Awka, Anambra State, has claimed one life and caused significant damage to the school’s hostel and students’ belongings. The incident occurred around 11:30 pm on Saturday, with the cause of the fire still under investigation.
According to a statement from the Anambra State Fire Service Chief, Chukwudi Chiketa, firefighters promptly responded to the scene and were able to contain the fire. The Chief visited the school on Sunday for inspection, where the principal provided details of the damage caused by the fire.
The statement confirmed the unfortunate death of a student, who was taken to a mortuary. The principal praised the swift response of the state fire service in preventing the fire from spreading further.
Expressing sympathy, the Fire Chief extended condolences to the school management, students, and the family of the deceased. He emphasized the importance of fire safety awareness and urged the public to exercise caution to prevent such tragedies in the future.
