Student, Plumber Docked For Allegedly Stealing Cell Phone

Gwagwalada (FCT), – A student, Shamsudden Bako, and a plumber, Odeh Benjamin, were docked in an Upper Area Court Gwagwalada, FCT, for allegedly stealing cell phone worth N37,000.The police charged Bako and Benjamin with criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and theft.The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Abudullahi Tanko, told the court that the complainant, Ibrahim Maji of old Kutunku reported the matter at the police station On Oct. 16.Tanko said that the complainant entrusted his Huawei cellphone  worth N37,000 to Bako (first defendant) to hold for him and when he demanded for the phone, the defendant told him that he gave it to Benjamin (second defendant).He said that when questioned Benjamin could not give satisfactory account of the phone.He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 96, 312 and 287 of the Penal Code.The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges

Counsel to the second defendant, Mr Isaac Adakole , in an oral bail application prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

Adakole cited the provisions of sections 158 and 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) to buttress his claims for bail.

The Judge, Mr Sani Umar, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N20,000 each with one reasonable and reliable surety each in like sum, who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

Umar also said that the sureties must provide two recent passport photographs and valid means of identification.

He ordered that the address of the sureties must be verified by the court staff and in default the defendant should be remanded in prison custody.

He adjourned the case until Dec. 5 for hearing. (NAN)
