Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Plateau State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Oliver Tersoo Agundu, has bagged a distinguished leadership award for successfully conducting the 2023 general elections and the re-run elections that took place fortnight ago.
The award was not just to honor him for the rancor free elections but for also ensuring that the exercise did not snowball into crisis considering the fragile nature of the State, the Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists (SONTA), the body who conferred the award said.
SONTA is an organization of Nigeria Theatre, Culture, Media arts and Film Scholars/Professionals, our correspondent reports.
Speaking during the presentation of the award, President of the Association, Prof. Gowon Doki said every year the association presents awards to three outstanding Nigerians who have performed excellently well in their field of endeavor.
Doki said recipients of the awards are thoroughly scrutinized with international best practices before the conferment.
He said the uniqueness of the Plateau REC was also due to the fact that he was once a lecturer at the Benue State University.
“Agundu was not just a lecturer but an outstanding one who has also taught many of us”, he said.
Responding, the Plateau REC said he was honored to have been selected amongst the three distinguished personality to be honored by the association, adding that the achievement achieved so far was also due the support given him by his management team not forgetting the privilege he enjoys from the Chairman of the Commission, Mahmood Yakubu.
SONTA has existed for 50 years with a pedigree of honoring distinguished Nigerians over the years and housing the high and mighty in the Theater Arts industry, our correspondent re- emphasized.
