Khartoum – Sudanese President Omar Bashir has promised to take part in the forthcoming Arab Summit in Nouakchott, Mauritania, in July in response to an invitation by Mauritanian President Mohamed Abdul Aziz.
The invitation was announced in Khartoum on Thursday.
According to official report, the invitation was delivered in Khartoum on Wednesday by Mauritanian presidential envoy and Justice Minister Ibrahim Weld Adam.
Early this month, President Bashir paid a visit to Uganda to take part in the celebration marking President Museveni’s investiture.
The invitation triggered a call by human rights groups and a number of countries for Uganda to arrest and hand him over to the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
President Bashir has continued to defy the ICC order that he be arrested on war crimes charges in Darfur, western Sudan, where civil strife has been raging since 2003. (PANA/NAN)
