ABUJA – Super Falcons’ head coach, Edwin Okon, on Friday in Abuja called for early camping for the team ahead of the 2014 African Women Championship (AWC) in Namibia.
Okon told newsmen he would like to start early preparations for the team, Nigeria’s senior women football team, because other teams had already called their players to camp.
“ Some of the participating countries have started preparations already, but we are still expecting orders from the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) to report to camp.
“What I am waiting for now is the permission from the handlers of the team, because I am just a worker.
“Once they call on us to report to camp, we will start preparations immediately,’’ he said.
The AWC has been scheduled to hold from Oct. 11 to Oct. 25.

Okon however expressed optimism that the NFA would also pay his backlog of salaries owed over two years as soon as possible.
He however assured that NFA’s failure to pay the owed salaries would not affect his work.
“I believe that they will soon pay me. But, this situation will not in any way affect my job,’’ the coach said.
Okon was coach of the under-20 women’s team, the Falconets, until 2012 before being promoted in 2013 to coach the senior women’s team.
For the 2014 AWC in Namibia, the Super Falcons have been drawn in Group A with hosts Namibia, Zambia and Cote d’Ivoire.
The 2014 AWC serves as the qualifiers for the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada, and the first three teams at the AWC will represent Africa at the Women’s World Cup.(NAN)
