The House of Representatives has urged the National Emergency Management Authority to provide relief for victims of the recent gas explosion in the Ladipo Auto Spare Parts Market in the Mushin area of Lagos State.
The House specifically urged NEMA and other agencies “meant to handle emergencies to immediately provide material support for victims of gas explosion in Mushin.”
The lawmaker representing Mushin 2 Federal Constituency in Lagos State at the House, Yusuf Ayinla, had moved a motion of urgent public importance at the plenary on Thursday, which was unanimously adopted by the House.
The motion was titled, ‘NEED to Urge the National Emergency Management Authority and Other Sister Agencies Meant to Handle Material Support for Victims of Gas Explosion in Mushin.’
Moving the motion, Ayinla said, “The House notes that there was a massive explosion at Ladipo Market, Mushin, caused by a deadly gas explosion from a mechanic workshop within the market. At least five persons were burnt to death when the explosion rocked a mechanic’s premises around 8am on Tuesday, 16th of November, 2021. Apart from the death recorded, there were injuries, vehicles of different brands were destroyed and some buildings were badly affected too.

“The House is also aware that security operatives and emergency responders have cordoned off the area as rescue operations and on-the-spot assessment have continued.
“The House is concerned that the affected persons will need the support of the government agencies meant to handle emergencies. There is a need to urge the National Emergency Management Authority and other agencies meant to handle emergencies in Lagos state to act swiftly by providing material support to the victims of the gas explosion in Mushin.”
