The Labour Party has described the recent Supreme Court decision in favor of Senator Nenadi Usman as a victory for the rule of law and a key moment for Nigeria’s democracy.
The Court upheld Senator Usman’s appeal, calling it “meritorious,” while it rejected the cross-appeal brought by the Abure-led faction of the Labour Party, labeling it “unmeritorious.”
In response, the party stressed that this moment should not be seen as one for celebration or rivalry.
“It is important to emphasize that this is not a time for triumphalism—there is no victor and no vanquished. What matters most is our shared commitment to the ideals and aspirations of the Labour Party and the Nigerian people. We must now come together, united in purpose and vision, to move the party forward.”
The party reaffirmed its unity and commitment to building a better Nigeria based on fairness, justice, and a government that puts people first.
“The Labour Party remains one indivisible family, steadfast in its mission to create a New Nigeria founded on justice, equity, and people-centred governance.”
It also urged all members, supporters, and stakeholders to stay peaceful, focused, and loyal to the party’s democratic values.
“We call on all party members, supporters, and stakeholders to remain calm, focused, and committed to the democratic ideals that bind us.”
The statement ended with a hopeful message:
“A New Nigeria is POssible!”
The press statement was signed by Senator Nenadi E. Usman, PhD, Chairman of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee.
