Pankshin – Chief Alexender Mwolwus, a PDP Chaieftain in Plateau, has challenged former PDP factional Chairman, Alhaji Modu Sheriff and his followers to remain in the party in spite of Wednesday’s Supreme Court verdict which declared his leadership as illegal.
The Supreme Court in its judgement over the fight for supremacy between Ahmed Markarfi and Sheriff factions, ruled in favour of Maikarfi as the authentic chairman of the opposition party.
Mwolwus, who was a former Special Adviser to ex-Gov. Jonah Jang on Political Matters, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, described the supreme court verdict as “victory for democracy’’.
“It is good and fair judgement for PDP, a party which the people are looking up to as being the one they understand most.
“Now that he supreme court has finally settled the in-house fight within our party, I expect Sheriff and his supporters to remain in the party as true and faithful members.
“This is because the verdict has now armed and strengthened PDP to squarely face others in 2019 general elections.
“We will be shocked if they (Sheriff and others) will eventually leave the party; it will send a signal to us that right from the beginning they weren’t party loyalists but merely spoilers, ’’ Mwolwus said.
The PDP Stalwart said the joy of every member of the party was that the “Supreme Court judgement is based on the supremacy of the people and more so that the verdict is final and can’t be challenged anywhere’’.
“Accordingly, we have learned our lesson; PDP must avoid the mistake of the past not to impose candidates on the people nor keep on with impunity.
He congratulated the Maikarfi led faction for the victory, the PDP leadership in Plateau and the members of the party across the nation for the victory at the supreme court. (NAN)
