Port Harcourt – Honour Sirawoo, Vice President, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) South-South, on Tuesday picked the organisation’s election planning committee form to contest for the position of National President.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that SWAN`s national election will hold in Ilorin on July 13.
Sirawoo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt after picking the form from Gabriel Nwanetanya, Secretary, SWAN Election Planning Committee (SWANEPCO) that he was determined to win.
“What I have to offer is my averred determination to reposition SWAN by eradicating quacks, end polarisation and bastardisation.
“We will be committed to the philosophy of SWAN and promote sports and Nigerian athletes beyond the shores of Africa,” he said.
According to Sirawoo, no SWAN member from the South-East and South-South zones of the country has been National President since the association was founded.
“I have picked the form to demonstrate our seriousness as a zone to produce the next SWAN National President.
“The South-East and South-South has not produced National President since the establishment of SWAN on Feb. 1, 1964,” he said.
Sirawoo said there was an understanding that any of the two zones that were yet to produce should be given the opportunity.
“So, we are willing and ready to have one of us as National President of SWAN now to have our name written down,” he said.
The presidential aspirant was accompanied by Ayo Tamuno, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers Council and SWAN Chairman in the state, Sopiriala Bobmanuel.
The Secretary of SWANEPCO, Nwanetanya, said Ben Ose-Ogbemudia, from Edo chapter of the Association, had picked form to contest for Deputy Secretary General.(NAN)
