ABUJA – The Sport Writers Associations of Nigeria (SWAN), FCT chapter, has expressed shock over the death of former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mrs Oluwaremilekun Oyo.
The late Oyo died in a London Hospital on Oct. 1 after a protracted illness.
The chapter in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by Bunmi Haruna, its Assistant Secretary, said the deceased left her mark on the sands of time.
“We express our heartfelt condolences to the Oyo family, friends, relatives as well as NAN.
“We can never forget her good work in developing sports in NAN, which includes building of a mini fitness centre for staff (members). [eap_ad_1] “She introduced table tennis competitions, set up a volleyball team which competed in annual Federation of Public Service Games,’’ the statement said.
It also said that the late Oyo would be remembered for ensuring that reporters and photographers in NAN covered local and International competitions.
“Oyo, one of Nigeria’s most respected female journalists, will be remembered for her exemplary leadership qualities and generosity especially the transformation of the Agency during her tenure as the MD.
“We pray that God almighty watch over those she left behind including her husband, children and grandchildren,’’ the statement added. (NAN)
