LAGOS – Ferguson Oluigbo, an international taekwondo certified referee on Wednesday advised sports federations to make budgetary proposals available to the National Sports Commission (NSC) on time.
Oluigbo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the essence was to provide prompt information on their activities to ensure that they were executed accordingly.
He said that priority should be given to national and international programmes that are important and could improve the present standard of the country’s sports profile in 2015.
“Federations must plan to succeed by having its 2015 detailed activities and send it to the NSC at the beginning of the year, so that the proposals can receive positive response.
“It is the budget estimate made available that will guide the NSC when they are also making their annual plan. So every arm must play its part.
“Another advantage of it is that the ministry will not have an excuse to say that the proposals did not come on time, even when bureaucracy is inevitable.
“There have been instances when the country could not attend competitions because of non release of fund but the truth is that the proposals were not sent to NSC in time.’’
He also emphasised on the need for federations’ to be wise in spending money provided by the NSC, stressing that such funds should not be diverted.
“We must do away with corruption, because that is the only way, we can make progress and improve the profile of our nation, every kobo must be accounted for,’’ he added.
He charged all sports federations to be objective in 2015 and seek to surpass performances recorded in the outgoing year for the general growth of the sports sector. (NAN)
