Ikeja, – After pleading guilty to robbing three persons of their phones and cash, a 20-year-old tailor, Abdulraman Amisu, was on Wednesday remanded in Kirikiri Prison, Lagos.
An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court which gave the ruling, said the accused should remain behind bars pending his sentence.
Amisu, whose address is unknown, had pleaded guilty to a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing before the Magistrate, Mrs F.F. George.
Earlier, Police Prosecutor Godwin Awase told the court that the accused committed the offences with four others still at large on July 25 in
Agege, a Lagos suburb.
According to him, the accused used violence and threat to rob three friends of their valuables.
“The accused robbed Mr Samuel Mulero of his Infinix 2 phone valued at N27, 000 and Mr Idris Haruna of his Nokia phone worth
N5, 000 and also dispossessed Mr Kabiru Mohammed of N3, 000.”
Awase said the accused and his accomplices attacked the complainants, beat them up and threatened to kill them if they refused to comply.
“When the accused was arrested few days after, the Nokia phone was recovered from him.”
The offences contravened Sections 287, 296 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year imprisonment for stealing while Section 296 prescribes
21 years for robbery.
The magistrate fixed Aug. 10 for facts and sentence.
