Akure – The Olowa of Igbara-Oke Kingdom, Oba Francis Agbede, has called on residents of Ondo State to take preventive measures against the coronavirus.
Agbede made the call on Saturday when he played host to the State Taskforce on COVID-19 on a sensitisation visit to his palace in Igbara-Oke, headquarters of Ifedore Local Government Area.
The monarch had earlier in the week suspended all meetings, large gatherings and other activities in and around the palace as part of preventive measures against the pandemic.
He commended Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for his prompt action and immediate intervention aimed at ensuring that the state was free of the pandemic and other diseases.
The monarch also commended the taskforce set up by the governor and headed by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro and Special Adviser to the Governor on Transport, Mr Tobi Ogunleye, for their sensitisation efforts.
Adegbenro, on his part, reiterated the readiness of the state to curtail the spread of any suspected or reported case of COVID-19.
He also said the reported cases in the state had all tested negative.
Adegbenro reminded residents of the need to take cognisance of their personal hygiene and ensure regular washing of hands with soap and clean water as well as sanitisers.
Ogunleye also said the Ministry of Transport was determined to ensure that commercial drivers in the state complied with the specific number of passengers allotted to their vehicles.
He said the priority of the government was to ensure the safety of its citizens and deploy precautionary measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.
