Sokoto (Sokoto State) – Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has urged the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission to promote harmonious coexistence among the various religions in the country.
He made the call when members of the commission, led by the Executive Secretary, John Okpara, paid him a courtesy visit in Sokoto on Tuesday .
He said, ”Nigerian pilgrims have generally conducted themselves well while away on pilgrimage.”
He commended the Christian Pilgrims Commission for its innovative approach in handling the welfare of pilgrims at home and abroad.
“Peaceful coexistence and religious harmony will be enhanced if clerics and other influential citizens set example to the entire citizenry.
“You can learn a lot from us here in Sokoto because we have maintained peace and tranquillity between adherent of many faith.
”Peace is a necessary requirement for development. So; I urge you all to support the government in its effort to ensure peace in the country”, the governor added.

In his remarks, Okpara said they were in Sokoto as part of the commission’s sensitisation visits to states of the federation. (NAN)
