SOKOTO – Gov. Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State has applauded the emergence of Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, the House of Representatives Speaker, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in the state.
Wamakko, who reacted to the emergence of Tambuwal as the APC’s flagbearer in Thursday’s gubernatorial primaries said “Tambuwal is qualified, competent and eligible for the position.
The news Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tambuwal scored 3466 votes as announced by the Chairman of the four-man electoral panel, Mr Khalil Bolaji.
“I must thank the elders of the party, its members and delegates who believed in the journey of positive change for the better.
“I am also overwhelmed with the successful conduct of the elections as the delegates cast their votes peacefully.
“I am congratulating Tambuwal for emerging as the authentic and acceptable flagbearer of the party,’’ Wamakko said.
He called on the other aspirants to join hands with Tambuwal and the party to ensure his success in 2015 polls.
The governor said that in all contests there must be winners and losers, stressing that the goal was to serve the people.
One of the defeated aspirants, Alhaji Yushau Kebbe, who scored 13 votes said: “Becoming a leader comes from God and I have accepted the result in good faith
“I feel happy for the emergence of Tambuwal and I will team up with my supporters to ensure his victory at the polls in 2015,’’ Kebbe said.
Kebbe was the gubernatorial candidate of the defunct ANPP in the 2011 general elections.
Another aspirant, Alhaji Faruk Malami, Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, who withdrew for Tambuwal, also expressed happiness with his emergence.
Malami promised to join hands with his supporters to ensure the success of Tambuwal and the APC in the 2015 general election.
“I am confident that APC will clinch all the positions at all levels in the 2015 elections and we will continue to emulate the sterling leadership style and qualities of Wamakko,’’ Malami said. (NAN)
