SOKOTO (SUNDIATA POST)- Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, has donated a car and two motorcycles to National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to enhance the organisation’s operations in the area.
The Council Chairman, Alhaji Abba Shehu, presented the vehicle to the State Commandant of NDLEA, Mr Adamu Iro, on Thursday in Tambuwal.
Shehu said the donation was part of his commitment to supporting the fight against drug abuse and other illicit dealings to argument the NDLEA operations in the area.
He described substance abuse, drug peddling and trafficking as root cause of crimes, stressing that most of the criminalities were being perpetrated under the influence of drugs.
He underscored the importance of drug-free society and urged civil society organisations and community leaders to support NDLEA’s activities.
Responding, Iro acknowledged the participatory role of the local government in fight against drugs abuse and other related crimes.
He called on other local government areas to emulate the good spirit of Tambuwal LGA by supporting a crime-free society and commended the leadership qualities of the chairman.
The commandant assured the council boss that the donated items would be used judiciously to serve the purpose they were meant for.
Iro also extended the appreciation of NDLEA’s Chief Executive Officer, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, who described the gift as an encouragement to the agency’s field officers. (NAN)
