ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says that work is ongoing to erect three towers along the 33 Kilo Volt (KV) Kainji-Birnin Kebbi transmission line which collapsed on May 7.
The Company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, made this known in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.
She said that the collapse was caused by a heavy wind at about 5:35 p.m. on May 7.
The manager said that TCN mobilised three separate contractors to the site, who were assigned to handle the reconstruction of one tower.
According to her, the strategic deployment aims to accelerate the restoration process and minimise downtime on the line.
”In the meantime, efforts have been made to cushion the impact of the disruption in bulk power supply to Kaduna DisCo, which affects some of its customers.
”Sokoto and Birnin Kebbi are currently receiving between six to seven Megawatts (MW) of bulk electricity from the Mando Transmission substation via the 132kV Mando-Zaria-Funtua-Gusau-Talata Mafara-Sokoto-Birnin Kebbi line.
”TCN appreciates the patience and understanding of the affected communities, as contractors work assiduously with our supervising engineers to rebuild the towers and restring the 330kV transmission line,”she said.
Meanwhile, she noted that the company regrets any inconvenience caused by the collapse and assured of the company’s commitment in restoring full supply. (NAN)
